Getting The Right Glassware For Bartending
For those new to bartending and maybe alcohol drinking in general, might not know how important proper glassware is when enjoying a nice cocktail or a good whiskey. When people order a drink, they usually are expecting it to be from a specific type of glass. You should invest some time in researching which types of glasses are used in which situations and find out which ones you need to fill up your cabinet with.
Shot glass: These are a must for every bar. People use these not only for serving shots of liquor, but also to measure the correct amount of alcohol to put in a drink.
Wine glasses: These often come in sizes of 5 to 10 oz. You can decide on a size yourself, but try to keep within this frame of size. I would personally ebb on the side of the smaller ones. Remember that the red wine glasses have a wider bowl than the white wine glasses, which gives the wine room to breathe. This is maybe the most important note to remember, as there are a lot of wine drinkers out there to please.
Cognac/Brandy glasses: Again, these also come in a wide variety of sizes, long, short, large, small, but one point needs to overheld and that is that it needs a large bowl that is cupped so that the hand holding it can keep the drink warm. Cognac and brandy is supposed to be enjoyed warm.
Champagne glasses: These are often smaller in radius and taller than wine glasses. Whats important when buying these are to have the bowl tapered so that you can prevent bubbles from escaping.
Highball glasses: The standard drink glass which is often used to serve straight-up drinks. This is the staple when used to making drinks, although you should invest in some different types, this will often do for most people and types of drinks.
We have now gone over a few of the most important glasses you should make yourself familiar with and there are many more if you would like to get more knowledgable. We have stemless glasses, cordial glasses, rocks glasses, cocktail glasses and many more, but the ones highlighted and explained in this article are the ones mostly used and those one should know about.
